Winning at anything, wheher it be in sport, landing a new job or impriving your relationships, is not random. There are ways to win at whatever you want. Whether you’re a believer in the law of attraction or not, we can all agree, your thoughts create your reality. And so, ultimately, your subconscious beliefs dictate your future. Here are ways to harness this.
1. Be Crystal Clear About What It Is You Want to Win.
Any outcome you hope to achieve has to start with being clear about what it is you hope to achieve. Acing your exams? Landing a new job? Getting a raise. Building a new business.
Just knowing your goals is not enough. You must be specific. If your outcome is to succeed in business then what would the benchmark be for you to feel you have achieved success? An annual profit of $100,000?
2. Repeatedly Visualize Your Success.
Once you know your goal, get into the habit of visualizing what it would look and feel like to achieve it. Practice visualizing it with so much certainty as if it has already happened.
Athletes consistently use this technique as part of preparing for their success. 23-time gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps said, “One of the things that have been good for me I think, besides training, has been my sort of mental preparation,”
Fellow swimmer and world-record holder Kathie Ledecky endorses this practice, “I have my goals and I visualize things to help me achieve those goals … I know what my stroke should feel like at different parts of the race, and I can just kind of picture that in my mind.”
This technique is not restricted to achieving medals in sports. Oprah’s belief that practicing visualizing helped her achieve her dream of acting and landed her a role in The Colour Purple.
Jim Carrey believed in the power of visualizing and living with certainty as if he’s achieved his goal. He wrote himself a check for 10M dollars and would drive along Bevely Hills looking at the mansions in Hollywood, imaginign living in one of them. Imagining life as if he had already achieved what he wanted — to be an actor in Hollywood. He did land his first role and received a check for the exact amount of $10M!
No matter what you’re hoping to achieve, it always starts with your mind!
3. Practice gratitude everyday.
It is not enough to imagine what life would look like if you achieved your goals. You also need to feel it. What would life be if you achieved that goal?
When you wake up, list everything you are grateful for and feel that gratitude in your core. If possible, write things down in a journal.
It’s during this elevated state that visualization is most effective. Because it is in that state of gratitude you can also feel what life would feel like once you have achieved your goals.
4. Replace your negative thoughts with positive ones.
Remember that change is hard and, change will often meet with moments of self-doubt and negative self-talk. But every time you feel a negative thought coming on, listen to it, feel it and release it. Do not stay in the energy of those negative thoughts.
5. Take ownership of events that happen in your life.
No, you did not cause that abuse that happened to you as a child. Neither were you responsible for that accident while you were in the passenger seat of the car.
We’ve all experienced events that were totally out of our control. But you can’t change the past. You can only change your relationship with the past. It is easy to blame others. You will feel much better when you realize that most issues stem from us.
6. Always believe that good things are about to happen.
By being open to new possibilities you are inviting abundance into your life. Think of an event that happened in the past that was unexpected but had positive consequences. Bumping into an old friend in the grocery store who gave you a job lead. Always be open to receiving.
7. Meditate for a few minutes each day.
Meditation is not something mystical or inexplicable. Meditation is merely the process of quietening the mind. It’s not about avoiding thoughts, but rather it is the process of observing your thoughts instead of reacting to them.
Through this process of observing rather than reacting, that you can start to redirect your thoughts and create a different reality. Meditation can change your life.
During your meditation, focus on how you would feel if things turned out as you desired. AND feel that feeling as if you have already accomplished those goals.
8. Engage in activities that make you happy.
Make bliss part of your daily routine. And do this by engaging in activities that bring you joy. When you are happy you have the best vibrational frequency to manifest your desires.
9. Surround yourself with people who lift you higher.
Coaches say that you are the average of the five people you are closest to. The people you surround yourself with have the greatest impact on your life. And this includes your health, wealth, and overall sense of well-being. It also includes your habits such as smoking and drinking.
Who are you closest friends? To whom do you share your thoughts, ideas, and dreams? Are they there to vent your frustrations? You are more likely to be happy if you surround yourself with happy people. Remember that downers will be downers, don’t let them drag you into their misery. Or are they there for fun times? Do they live a life you desire for yourself?
You are not only the average of the five people you surround yourself with, you are the average of the people who surround you. So, who’s in your court?
10. Take inspired action.
Just thinking of winning is not enough. To support your belief that you are going to achieve your goals, you need to take inspired action. An inspired action is an action that comes from a place of wisdom and insight. Through meditation and quietening your mind, you will be able to hear what you need to do next to achieve those goals.
Know that you are supported by the universe.
Regardless of our spiritual beliefs, most of us agree that there is a force greater than ourselves. And that greater force has your back. Even if you did not believe there is any force outside of yourself, we can all agree that if you believe things will work out, the likelihood of them working out increases.
